Power supply and LED driver enquiry checklist
The load, thermal, mechanical and programme information to gather before a design-in discussion about a CC/CV power supply or LED driver.
Output and load
- Constant current or constant voltage
- Output voltage or current, and power
- For LED loads: module current, string forward-voltage range and modules per driver
- Start-up, peak or switching behaviour of the load
Input and control
- Input voltage range and frequency at the installation
- Dimming or control interface and range, if any
- Exposure to surges, long cable runs or unstable supplies
Thermal and mechanical
- Mounting position and available space, with a drawing if possible
- Measured or expected temperature at the supply or driver position
- How heat leaves the host product
- Ingress protection the host product needs
Validation and programme
- Approvals the end product needs and who will hold them
- Validation plan, acceptance criteria and sample quantities
- Expected volumes and the timing of prototype, pilot and production
- Change-notification expectations and expected production life
Mention in the enquiry any drawings or draft requirement document that exist, even if incomplete; they are requested when the review begins. Requirements are recorded as a baseline with a revision, so later changes can be tracked.
