Commissioning
Commissioning and handover
What commissioning involves, what the site provides, and which records and information are handed over at the end.
What commissioning is
Commissioning is the controlled first energisation of installed equipment, with the checks and settings needed to confirm that it operates as agreed in its actual installation. It is the point at which the equipment moves from project to operation. Whether commissioning is included in Invitrona's scope, or carried out by the buyer's contractor, is stated in the quotation and order.
Before commissioning
Commissioning starts only when the installation is ready:
- The equipment is positioned with the agreed clearances and ventilation
- Incoming and outgoing cables are terminated and their connections checked
- Earthing is connected to the site earthing system
- Upstream and downstream protection is in place
- The area is clean, clear of tools and materials, and safe to work in
- A shutdown or energisation window has been agreed with the site, with the necessary permits
If any of these is not complete, commissioning is postponed rather than carried out under compromise.
During commissioning
Commissioning follows a checklist linked to the exact unit. The checks depend on the product, and typically include:
- Confirmation of the unit's identity against the order and documents
- Visual and mechanical checks of the installed equipment
- Checks of connections, earthing and protection before energisation
- Energisation under the site's permit system
- Measurement of input and output under the conditions available on the day
- Setting of adjustable parameters to the agreed values
- Functional checks of indications, alarms and protections included in the configuration
Settings, measurements and observations are recorded. Where a condition on the day differs from the requirement, for example an input voltage outside the range agreed, it is recorded and reported rather than adjusted around.
Handover
At the end of commissioning, the equipment owner receives the applicable records and information:
- Product and serial identity
- Approved drawings
- Installation and operating manual
- Inspection and test records, as agreed
- The commissioning record with settings and measurements
- Routine care requirements
- The warranty terms, as stated in the quotation
- The route for service requests
- A list of any open actions, with owners
Keep these documents with the equipment or in the owner's asset records. They are the starting point for any later service.
When conditions on the day differ
Commissioning is carried out with the supply and load available on the day. A site that is not yet fully loaded cannot show how the equipment behaves at full load, and a supply measured at midday may not show the evening low. Where a check cannot be completed because of site conditions, the commissioning record says so, and the check is planned for a later visit or handed to the site team with clear guidance. An incomplete check is recorded as incomplete rather than assumed to have passed.
Operating guidance
Where the scope includes it, the site team is shown normal operation, indications, safe isolation and routine checks. This guidance supports, but does not replace, the site's responsibility for safe operation by competent people.
After handover
Report any issue through the service request form, quoting the serial identity from the rating plate. See routine care and maintenance for care after handover.
